About the Author

Dr. Winkler comes to the world of writing after 55 years in the workforce and 40 of those as practicing Humanistic Psychologist working across a number of different settings at which point he was forced to retire for a  combination of medical reasons and to care for his late wife and life partner of 50 years, Carol.

From the combination of his life and professional experiences Dr. Winkler has come to have faith and belief in our species which he views as being pretty good overall.  His background, both personal and professional has taught him that to achieve and sustain being ‘pretty good’ requires consistent and good quality support.  This support comes from our environment and others who support us across our lives. These people are VERY important, they are mentors.  Along with mentors, understanding ourselves is also important.

Dr. Winkler’s work as an author is informed by his own varied experiential background. This includes pre-professional work in private security, wholesale and retail sales and management and 4-1/2 yrs in the skilled trades.  Also contributing is his somewhat unique background on the journey from child to young adult having spent time in both an urban environment- industrial Detroit in the 1950’s and ‘60’s along with time in the rural environment of his maternal grandparents farm in Minnesota.  As noted he was married to his great wife Carol for 50 years and together they had the privilege of raising 5 kids to effective adulthood. And then there is Dr. Winkler’s formal education of an MA in British and military history along with his MA and PsyD in Humanistic Psych.

All this brings an authoritative knowledge base to his curiosity about and exploration s of our human nature.  Dr. Winkler considers that sharing who we experience ourselves as being to be an important part of learning to be ‘pretty good’ humans. Thus he seeks to share some of his insights from life  with his authorship and invites all of you who have the curiosity about yourselves and our species to, by reading, join him in these adventures.
